What is a Kippins Organic Baby Comforter?
A Kippins Baby Comforter is a toy and blankie combo designed to provide comfort and help baby/toddler feel safe and secure when their primary caregiver is unavailable. Intentionally simple – small and lightweight, with no electronics, buttons or embroidery! Made from machine washable organic cotton, perfect for curious mouths.
Based on consultation with audiologists and paediatricians, Kippins are intentionally silent to protect little ears and don’t make white noise or emit lullabies.
“We were just a couple of new parents who wanted to get more sleep…”
When pregnant with my first child in 2012, I was told I would never sleep again! As a major fan of sleeping, I went in search of the perfect comforter (a great way of helping baby feel secure when Mum or Dad isn’t around) but couldn’t find anything that ticked all of the boxes: cool, organic, machine washable and ethically made. The very first Kippin was sketched in the middle of the night after a particularly strange pregnant-lady dream. After a few years of perfecting, Kippins launched in 2014, with thousands of happy babies now getting super Kippiny! – Heather, Founder.
When Can baby Sleep with Comforter?
Red Nose does not recommend leaving a comforter in the cot for babies under 7 months.
But have no fear, there are many ways to introduce your baby to their comforter early on. Infact its recommeneded to building your bubs friendship with their support buddy. Try to introduce your baby’s Kippin each time you comfort your baby. Have their kippiny friend hanging over your shoulder and include them in your baby’s cuddle sessions.
Baby will then gradually begin to associate the smell and feel of their Kippin with the comfort that you provide. (Try to introduce their Kippin when your bub is already comfortable, in a happy place and mood).
According to the Red Nose (formerly SIDS) guidelines, from the 7 month mark, you will be able to call on your baby’s comforter friend to see them through tough nights (in the cot), car trips, sleepovers, and outings. Their Kippin will become a trusted friend for the whole family!
The need for a transitional object often occurs at 7–10 months, with another developmental stage at 18 months. As a natural part of a baby’s development, they will experience separation anxiety when they reach approximately 7 months old. This separation anxiety can affect baby’s sleep time (and yours!). By slowly introducing a security comforter/blankie to your baby, you will be able to provide them with an object that is familiar, comforting and makes them feel safe. It will become a very important go-to friend for both parents and bub! Supervision is recommended until 12 months (per ACCC).

Kippin Parent Tips
KIPPIN A BACKUP
It’s recommended to purchase 2 of the same kippin, so you have a double to fill in when you need to wash your bub’s ‘main’ Kippin.
INTRODUCE ALL SPARE COMFORTERS AT ONCE
By rotating all of the different spares each night/sleep. this ensures your child becomes equally attached to all of their comforters. It is unlikely once your child is attached to a specific comforter, that they will attach to a brand new one. This is because the child has become psychologically attached to that specific object (not what it ‘looks’ like).
WASH YOUR KIPPIN
Use cold water, eco-friendly washing powder on a gentle cycle.
GET SNUGGLY
Pop your baby’s Kippin comforter in your top or sleep with it for a couple of nights to transfer your parent scent!
INTRODUCTION
Cuddle time is the best time to introduce your baby to their Kippin! Get your Kippin involved in regular squeeze fests to start the friendship!
SLEEP TIME
Ready to use the Kippin in the cot or bed? Place them somewhere safe, ensuring baby’s face and head always remains uncovered.
SHOW THEM YOU CARE
Cuddling, feeding or trying to turn a frown upside down? Let your Kippin join the party. (baby will learn they’re a feel-good friend). Frequency is the key to a lasting friendship.
